Spinning to the rhythm of the movement
Do you remember those old toys where you pulled a string to make a button spin at high speed? The wooden storm disc works on the same principle, but makes a special, almost stormy sound while spinning.
By rhythmically pulling the handles on both sides apart, the rope winds itself up further and further. As soon as the rope is fully wound, the disc spins back the other way by itself. By keeping to the rhythm, the movement continues to repeat: pull, spin, back, and repeat.

That seems simple, but requires a surprising amount of practice. You learn to better dose the strength of your hands and discover which rhythm is needed to keep the storm disc spinning for a long time. This requires sustained attention, patience, and motor planning.
- stimulates sense of rhythm and bilateral coordination
- practice with force regulation and modulating strength
- supports eye-hand coordination
- requires sustained attention and patience
- stimulates motor planning and timing
- requires alternating movement of both hands, calmness, and strength
- the stormy sound provides direct auditory feedback
- fun as a movement break, fidget, or sensory play

Tip:
The rope can be shortened so that the storm disc fits the child comfortably and safely.

Note: pulling too hard can cause the rope to wear out or snap. Check the rope regularly to keep the game safe and durable.

A simple wooden game with a surprising amount of motor challenge. The storm disc beautifully illustrates that sometimes you have to practice a little before your hands naturally find the right rhythm.
