Climbing wall swiss cheese

  • Two-handed
  • Eye-hand coordination

Strong little fingers, a steady hand and a lot of patience: that is exactly what this climbing wall for marbles requires of you!
Janod’s "Gatenkaas" (Swiss Cheese) is a wooden obstacle course where you use both hands to pull the strings on the left and right to guide a marble up past all the holes, all the way to the top of the board. It sounds straightforward, but one wrong move and the marble still falls into a hole — then you just start over. This makes the game quite challenging: it requires dexterity and insight, and sometimes a lot of patience, because frustration is just around the corner. That "one more time" feeling is exactly what makes it so addictive to keep trying.
As the marble finds its way to the top, your child is simultaneously practicing quite a few skills: fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, since you have to sense very precisely how hard to pull on a string. Concentration, patience, and movement planning also come into play — you have to think ahead so the marble doesn't just fall into a hole. Fun for at home at the kitchen table, but also well-suited for the classroom as a short, active break, or during therapy sessions focused on fine motor skills and concentration.
- Trains fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
- Stimulates concentration, patience, and perseverance
- Requires movement planning and forward thinking
- Compact, felt-lined tray that dampens the sound of falling marbles

Play tip:
- Cover a few holes with a piece of paper to make the game a bit easier for beginners.
- Let children take turns playing against the clock and keep a scoreboard — at the end of the week, you can see who was the fastest, and everyone can try to beat their own record.

It is precisely that combination of precision, patience, and the occasional touch of frustration that makes this game so valuable: it teaches children that practice pays off, and every failed attempt brings the next round a little bit closer
